We woke up to the Viennese skyline with its many buildings. VIenna is a large capital city deserving of more than our quick look around. We took a bus trip through the city, seeing many of the major buildingcs. Maria Theresa was the well loved Empress of Vienna and I have come to recognize her, as her likeness is all over the city and our boat is called the Maria Theresa, so we have a large mural of her in our lobby. Maria Theresa is the mother to Marie Antoinette, who married the king of France later.
We stopped at the Kunz Historic Musem, a beautiful building erected solely to display the art and treasures of Vienna.
There are rooms and rooms of art pieces. We spent time in a Rubin room with a very good guide who gave us some history of the paintings. Some of the rooms had the artwork displayed as the owners of the European lavish homes would do. Paintings were hung not just at eye level as we do today, but from floor to ceiling one on top of the other. It was quite overwhelming and beautiful.

After dinner we took a bus to a concert hall in a palace for a private concert. The musicians played two sets; one of Mozart and one of Strauss (both father and son). Two opera singers performed several selections. Two couples performed the Viennese waltz to three songs. It was quite a magical evening! we found a CD of our concert in our room that evening. Nice touch.
Our group of new friends joined everyone in the lounge for “warm snacks” - they had a full buffet of sausages and pretzels. Amazing!
