We headed south for two days in San Fran. Stopped at Stinson Beach on the way, then headed across the Golden Gate Bridge.
Could not resist driving down Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world.
For dinner we took a cable car to Fishermen's Wharf. Stopped in for an Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista Hotel, where the drink was supposedly invented. Loved the crab cakes at Scoma's.
The next day we drove to Sausalito and did some major window shopping.
Had lunch at Horizon's right on the water. Turns out it used to be called The Trident in the early 70's.
The Trident had an interesting reputation. Janis Joplin had a table perpetually reserved for her. It is the table at the far right.
The ceiling murals are original to the 70's.
The manager told us stories about the Rolling Stones renting the Trident for months at a time for their parties. They used the office to store their "refreshments du jour". Next, we visited The Cliff House on Ocean Beach on the western edge of the city. This building is the 3rd Cliff House to stand on the property. Fun to see the old pictures. An artist raked a piece of art on the beach while we had a drink.
We drove back to our hotel through Golden Gate Park and passed by Haight Ashbury. Next visit we want to walk around that funky area.
For dinner we hitched a ride in an off-duty trolley. The driver took the four of us right to our China Town restaurant for a tip. What service!
After a delicious dinner (very yum!) we strolled through China Town into North Beach for some Italian dessert and coffee. We passed a street concert by some Chinese senior citizens. Another time we will get tickets for Beach Blanket Babylon. Ruth saw it 20+ years ago and it is a hoot.
On our last morning we walked through Union Square, which is one block from the Prescott Hotel, where we stayed.
We sure had a wonderful trip to the Redwood forest, wine country and San Fran. Thanks for inviting us, Nikki and Bob!
