Puerto Vallarta 10/24/16

Today our friends from Rivera del Rio came by our condo for a glass of wine in our condo and then lunch afterwards at Langosta Loca. We saw a guy in a Bronco shirt sitting next to us. We asked where he was from and he answered, "A little town in the mountains." Turns out they lived in Sprucewood, CO where our very good friend George Melvin lives and runs the Sprucewood Inn. So funny to meet someone from such a tiny place that we know so well all the way in Puerto Vallarta.

Our next order of business was to walk inland a few blocks to buy some flour tortillas at the tortilla factory and fresh shrimp at the fish market. We bring our own cocktail sauce down to PV, as they don't sell it readily here.

Next stop for the day is El Torito for the Broncos - Texans football game.

Puerto Vallarta 10/22/16 - 10/23/16

On Saturday we made the move from Rivera del Rio to the Vista del Sol condo that we rent each October. Easy move right down Aquiles Serdan.

After settling in a bit, we took a cab to grocery shop for a couple of weeks. We had a great dinner at our usual "first night" spot - Cafe de Olla. I had sea bass al mojo de ajo (in garlic butter) and Rick and an enchilada plate. Very nice meal close to our condo.

On Sunday we hung out at the pool for a bit in the afternoon. Ruth swam some laps. Always good to do when vacationing in a "foodie" town like PV! Later we headed to the Parque Hidalgo to listen to the Municipal Band play. The Mexican citizens come out every Sunday night for a dance night. It is wonderful to observe!

Puerto Vallarta October 18 - 22, 2016

We spent four days at a unique and ornate boutique hotel.

Rivera de Rio is located on a dirt street right on the Cuale river.

It is about 7 blocks inland from the Vista del Sol condo that we like to rent, so we are familiar with the neighborhood. We originally booked the smallest room, the Green Room. I was looking at their website to see how full the B&B would be and I noticed that the Cortez Suite was open and the price had dropped, making it cheaper than our Green Room. I called the owner and he switched us over.

Silver Cortez was an American woman who visited Puerto Vallarta in the 50's and fell in love with the little beach town. She became friends with Liz Taylor and Richard Burton and hung out with the Hollywood crowd that flocked to PV. She had a home on the beach, but purchased this three story townhouse on the Cuale River. Right across the river is Gringo Gulch, where Liz and Dick had homes. Silver had a unique decorating style. Everything in the whole BnB is quite amazing and a treat to the eye.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Oscar with guacamole and margaritas. Nice touch!

When we saw our room we were bowled over. The Cortez Suite is a four room, two bath accommodation on five levels.

From our location in inland Colonia Emiliano Zapata, we have taken daily walkabouts. This may sound normal to most, but for Rick and Ruth this is a new occurrence. Rick had has troublesome ankle fused in March 2015. The recuperation is 2 years and we are almost there! So, walking for one - two hours is a big deal for us. We loved going further inland to see what the Colonia is like so far from the beach.

We had an excellent meal at Chenan2 (Chenandos) which is a block from Rivera del Rio. Chenando is the owner, his son Christian is the server and his wife works the bar. We always have excellent meals from this family owned restaurant. This time Ruth had the really delicious seafood pasta with homemade pesto and Rick had the coconut shrimp, which he loves from Chenandos.
